PROJECT OVERVIEW

With over 650 customers, 145 thousand square meters of warehouses under management and a proprietary fleet of over 700 vehicles, Brivio & Viganò is one of the main Italian players in the distribution and integrated logistics of food products. The 3PL operates on numerous platforms, 5 of which are proprietary and located in Italy and Spain, offering turnkey solutions that allow large-scale retail and industrial operators to maximize supply chain efficiency.

The logistics hub in Pozzuolo Martesana, in the Milan hinterland, was launched in mid-2018 and covers a total area of 23,150 square meters, equipped with new-generation storage cells with temperatures varying from negative (-25 C°) to positive. It is allocated 55% to the "frost" segment and the remaining 45% to the "fresh" segment. With a total of 31,000 pallet spaces and 50 shelves, the warehouse makes use of Generix Supply Chain Hub - WMS to manage the processes of all references.

WHY GENERIX GROUP'S WMS

An essential requirement for Brivio & Viganò in choosing warehouse management software for the new logistics center was maximum flexibility, to be understood as the ability to quickly activate new customers, manage a high heterogeneity of processes and promptly deal with specific requests.

Three features of the Generix WMS proved crucial in guiding the choice:

  • The availability of the platform as a SaaS (Software as a Service) service has lowered the average time needed to implement a WMS solution, allowing Brivio & Viganò to have new customers' goods in stock within 2 weeks for smaller companies and in about a month and a half for those with more complex operations.
Two years after the start-up, there are 12 customers managed on the depot, including two of the main large-scale retail trade brands and some of the best-known confectionery brands, also at international level.
SaaS mode also offers the advantage of scalability and cost flexibility, as it is linked to consumption pricing, based on the volumes handled.
  • The multi-customer management, allowed by the heterogeneity of the activity models made available by the solution. For example, it is possible to differentiate by customer the reception modalities (with DESADV, EAN128, EAN 13/14, article selection), stock management (storage rules, setting automatic blocks when the saleability period is exceeded, multi-criteria inventory management) and goods preparation (whole pallets, layers, packages, with static or dynamic picking management).

The ability to set up separate management by area, corridor, site allows the information flows of each individual customer to be treated completely separately and independently, eliminating the risk of promiscuity, also setting up different visibility profiles for customers/users (e.g. some users have visibility only on certain customers and not on others).

The system also allows the establishment of multi-customer shipments if desired, in order to optimize the saturation of the means.
  • The breadth of the functional coverage of the solution and the powerful basic parameterization, which can be further extended through specific developments according to the needs of customers (for example: the development made to assign an internal lot code of the customer, or the development of a specific one that allows, when creating the pallet, to certify that the EAN13 code is correct).

To complete the project, the adoption of Generix Supply Chain Hub - TradeXpress made it possible to integrate incoming flows into the original formats, without having to impose file transformation interventions on Brivio & Viganò's clients. The same technology was also used to provide the outbound flow files in the formats requested by the clients.

The choice of 3PL was also influenced by Generix Group's more than twenty years of experience in the food distribution and logistics services sector, with numerous domestic and international references.

Three characteristics of the Generix WMS were fundamental in our choice: the availability of the platform as a SaaS service; multi-client management; and the breadth of functional coverage.
Also decisive was the thirty years of experience that Generix Group has in the market of solutions for the logistics and distribution of food products: for us, such a solid and long-standing experience is a very important added value, a guarantee of reliability.

"The Generix Group WMS supports us on a daily basis at the operational level, allowing us to increase the responsiveness and agility of our warehouse, and consequently to keep faith with the commitments we make with our clients. The availability of the Generix solution in SaaS was instrumental in this regard, as it brought streamlining and speed to the project.

Considering the ambitious goals we have set ourselves, first and foremost the high quality of the service we want to guarantee to our customers, it is essential for us to be able to rely on a vendor that, thanks to the experience and maturity acquired over years of work in the markets in which we also operate, is able to support us in the projects with a consulting approach and to support us in the evolution that we already foresee for our business."
